Kissimmee, FL. (May 16) — Osceola Community Health Services (OCHS) will host a conversation series to improve HIV(human immunodeficiency virus) care in Osceola County. The series will occur at three OCHS locations over three days throughout Osceola County.
Osceola County has a rate of 419.4 persons per 100,000 living with HIV, according to 2022 data provided by Healthy People 2030 US Department of Health and Human Services. The data includes all demographic groups and ages. The Osceola Community Health Services Ryan White HIV/PrEP Program manages the care for HIV-related services for those who do not have sufficient health care coverage or financial resources for coping with HIV. The conversation series will allow all residents in the county living with HIV to voice concerns and ideas and ask questions about resources and treatment options to the program leadership. The OCHS Ryan White program will use the information shared by participants to support long-term planning concerning HIV care in Osceola County.
“HIV impacts families of all backgrounds,” said Dr. Belinda Johnson-Cornett, Osceola Community Health Services Chief Executive Officer. “Our mission is to support people living with HIV by ensuring they are aware of their treatment options and addressing any barriers they may face. We believe in planning for the future while providing compassionate care in the present. As we work towards a world free from HIV, we are committed to empowering and supporting those living with the virus. Our conversation series aims to create a nurturing environment where individuals can unite to shape a brighter future for all people.”
The series will take place in Kissimmee, Intercession City, and Poinciana. Participants will receive a $25 gift card and snacks. People can expect to spend about 10 minutes answering questions and discussing them in a group for about an hour. The topics will include individuals’ thoughts and experiences with living with HIV/AIDS and sharing ideas that can improve health in Osceola County.
